Benefits of pellet boilers

Easy to operate: Pellet boilers have advantages over normal wood burning stoves or multifuel stoves in that once you have loaded the wood pellets into the hopper the boiler automatically feeds itself with the pellet fuel. Depending on the size (capacity) of the hopper you may only need to top it up every couple of days, or even weekly.

Pellet boilers have clever technology built into them: They can automatically ignite, and by a timer and thermostat, cycle itself on and off. Some models with a built in computer can run diagnostics to ensure it is operating correctly and safely.

Clean burning: One of the big advantages of using wood pellets as a fuel is that they are clean burning and produce a minimal amount of ash. Depending on the grade of the pellets used you can expect < 1% ash content (premium grade) whilst low standard or medium quality pellets will produce between 2 % to 4% of ash. Burning wood pellets also produces less smoke than logs or coal.

It should be noted that if you do use low grade pellets your boiler may not operate at it’s most efficient capacity and can cause problems with the electronics and other mechanical parts of the boiler, using this type of pellet fuel may even invalidate your boiler guarantee.

A green heating source: Many people are concerned about the ecological issues of burning fossil fuels such a coal, gas and oil. Our planet has a finite amount of these fuels and once depleted they cannot be replace. Wood however is a sustainable resource, and even better, wood pellets are manufactured as a by-product from timber mills, wood processing plants &  furniture makers so at the moment there is no loss of woodland as a result of making wood pellets for burning in boilers. It is considered a zero CO2 producing method of heating as any released into the atmosphere is absorbed by living trees.
